Come and join the Tasai Collective as they present their third annual poetry event, ‘Japanese Poets North of 49th’. The event will feature local poet Soramuru Takayama, as well as Shoichi Nejime, a prestigious poet and novelist from Japan. This unique event includes Takayama performing his poetry in a traditional Japanese theatre movement style. During his performance, he will be accompanied by a local Japanese musician, Kofu, who will be playing the taiko drum and the shakuhachi flute. There will also be a poetry reading from Nejime-sensi and the show will finish with a collaborative performance from both artists. All the performances will be in Japanese, however, during the show English subtitles will be projected allowing both English and Japanese speakers to experience the magical evening. Don't miss the unique melding of cultural sights and sounds only Vancouver could deliver.
Steve Frost, founder and executive director of Tasai said, “I feel honoured to be producing this event, having a poet of Nejime’s caliber in Vancouver is an incredible opportunity. The live English subtitles give everyone the chance to experience the poetry in its original Japanese language and still know what’s going on. It’s an element of the show that makes it really magical, as native English speakers get to participate, while the performance stays true to its authentic heart.”
