New Works at Night presents O.Dela Arts
Audiences will have the opportunities to witness the world premiere of Gateways, an ensemble piece that brings together artists from Canada and New Zealand, and the remount of Rematriate, a solo work, which premiered at the Dancing on the Edge festival in July 2018.
Rematriate is a solo created and performed by Olivia C. Davies in response to the patriarchal systems that hold society hostage to continual technological advancement and an ever-growing disconnection to reality. To rematriate is to return to source. This solo seeks to articulate potential pathways to peace and presence that are grounded in Contemporary Indigenous feminism.
Gateways questions how we open and close the creative spaces of our bodies and our awareness of the environmental space we inhabit in creation. These two works bring together Indigenous and Non-Indigenous dance artists to explore cultural teachings encoded in stories shared by Matriarchs.
