A special free BC Family Day presentation
At the Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Lobbies
Free Family Day Puppet Show and Gallery Open House
Vancouver Civic Theatres presents Vancouver Puppet Theatre and their show: Baba Yaga and The Black Flower, a marionette show for kids and adults based on Eastern European folklore. Handmade marionettes are waiting to tell you the story of Baba Yaga. This ancient Russian forest entity is cosmically cranky and lives in a chicken-legged house. There’s only one thing that can stop her and it isn’t love. Inspired by folktales of old, adorned with a set of antique 60-year-old marionettes, infused with Eastern European music and performed as a one-person-puppet-theatre – the story has all the classic elements of the thriller for kids: the grieving king, the beautiful princess and the cruel villain. And then, of course, there is an unexpected twist...
Produced and performed by professional puppeteer Viktor Barkar and directed by Karen Petersen, the show is a unique opportunity to introduce your children to the magic of puppet theatre and bring the whole family to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre lobbies. Marionettes are built by the legendary Betty Kirkham.
All three levels of the QET lobbies will be open for guests to view the current art exhibit – Tatjana Mirkov-Popovicki and Pierre Vassura.
Free - no ticket required, all ages welcome. No concession open for this event. No pets allowed. 9:45 to 2pm for Gallery Open House, puppet shows as listed.
