Ballet Jazz Montréal presents Dance Me - Music by Leonard Cohen
Ballet Jazz Montréal comes to the West Coast for one night only this summer with Dance Me—Music by Leonard Cohen, inspired by the work of the late, great Montreal-based poet, artist, and songwriter.
Approved by Cohen during his lifetime, the full-length piece under the artistic direction of Louis Robitaille with dramaturgy by Eric Jean evokes grand cycles of existence, as described in Cohen’s introspective lyrics and poems.
Three internationally renowned choreographers turned Cohen’s music into movement: Andonis Foniadakis (of Montreal’s Danse Danse), Amsterdam-based Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Ihsan Rustem (resident choreographer for Portland’s NW Dance Project and co-founder of Swiss-based dance company Cie. La Ronde).
The 80-minute piece for 14 dancers had its world premiere in December 2017 in Montreal. Ballets Jazz Montréal has been granted exclusive dance rights to the piece for five years.
