Blueridge Chamber Music Festival presents Capilano String Quartet: Turning in the Widening Gyre
Where do ideas come from? This concert investigates how composers mold, maneuver, and manipulate musical materials to make masterpieces. The program includes two of the most cherished sets of variations in chamber Vancouver’s illustrious Capilano String Quartet reunites for an ebullient program of music by women composers. Celebrate nature with quartets by queer Canadian icon Ann Southam and Black American pathfinder Florence Price. Bask in the glory of summer with warm and witty duets by celebrated Belize-born British composer Errollyn Wallen and rising American superstar Jessie Montgomery. Cellist Albert Seo, a recent CBC “Hot 30 Under 30” pick, joins in for Ethel Smyth’s sunny String Quintet.
