Erato Ensemble Solo Series presents Performing Memories
Featuring a screening of Performing Memories, a film by Michael Park and Esteban Guti. Plus works by Cecilia Livingston, Edward Grieg, and Richard Greig.
Performing Memories is a 35-minute piece for solo speaking pianist, written by Michael Park during the pandemic, with the support of the BC Arts Council. In recounting the first time he looked inside various objects from his past, the narrator takes the audience on a journey of self-discovery through themes of isolation, shame, fear and death; but also exploration, joy, love and belonging. Through the generous support of the Canadian Council for the Arts, the composer collaborated with director Esteban Guti to create a film version of the piece incorporating performance footage, dramatic reenactment, and illustration/animation by Héctor Rivera.
