Celebrating 25 Years of Musical Adventures!

Yarilo's season opens with the first of a series of musical events marking 25 years of collaboration with music that established Yarilo and has kept them going through the years. From our inception, you will hear one more time the work that brought us together: Nikolai Korndorf’s celebrated piano composition, YARILO.

From the first sparkles of light in “Yarilo” (Nikolai Korndorf) to the brilliant radiance of “Sungods” (Brian Current), we will present a panorama of some of Canada’s best solo and two-piano music.

Taking inspiration from “Sungods”, whose subtitle is “Let the sun shine down upon all of God’s creatures”, their program showcases the power of the elements in music. Each work on the program unfolds before your eyes the stories of our land—the arrival of Spring (“Yarilo”, Korndorf), the awakening of the Earth (“The Ringing Earth”, Alexina Louie), the flow of rivers (“Rivers”, Ann Southam), and the sparks of fire and wild wind (“Firewind”, John Burke).
