Indian Summer Festival: Sacred Sounds, New Worlds - Rashmeet Kaur
Rashmeet Kaur is a Punjabi singer, songwriter, composer, and one of India’s biggest rising stars. In her much anticipated Vancouver debut, Rashmeet brings her signature fusion of defiant Punjabi folk, Sufi, hip-hop, and R&B inspired melodies to the Playhouse stage.
Known for blurring musical boundaries and a refusal to be boxed in, Rashmeet draws on the sounds of the past while speaking directly to the present, creating a sonic experience that is both rooted and radical in its point of view.
Whether you come for the folk, the feeling, or a fresh sound, Rashmeet’s Vancouver debut at Indian Summer Festival will offer something for everyone: not just for you, but for your aunties and your cousins, too.
Opening the night, Asad Khan’s Sammah Project offers a hand-held, transportive deep listening journey shaped by Sufi traditions and global influences, where soul and emotion meet high fidelity sound and bass. Drawing from Indian classical, Old Hindi film, Punjabi folk, Qawwali and Ghazal, each piece is reimagined within lush, electronic soundscapes where tradition and modern production live side by side.
This evening of classical and new music brings together two beloved artists reimagining the sound of devotion, longing, and contemporary diasporic expression.
