re:Naissance Opera - IndieFest presents Inferno & Live from the Underworld
INFERNO: A HIP HOP OPERA (Workshop performance)
This opera workshop blends hip-hop, rap, beat boxing, sampling, R&B, and contemporary opera in celebration of BIPOC voices. This opera reimagines ‘Dante’s Inferno’ as a feminist, anti-establishment, anti-collonial allegory, with the story’s framed layers of Hell representing oppressive systems of power. This musical fusion will ultimately culminate in an illustration of paradise for BIPOC people and communities.
LIVE FROM THE UNDERWORLD II: EURYDICE'S CALLING
For the very first time, audiences can experience a behind-the-scenes look at how innovative motion capture technology and tried-and-true video game tools bring Eurydice's visually and musically dramatic world to life. Bringing together professionals from the opera, theatre, dance, hip-hop, and video game industry, this cross-sector collaboration results in a genre-defying work that redefines opera for the modern age.
Suitable for all ages, this experience can be enjoyed by folklore and fantasy lovers, opera goers and gamers, and beyond!
