Mictlan, a place for eternal rest in the Aztec civilization and mythology. Mictlan consists of nine distinct levels, the journey from the first level to the ninth is difficult and takes four years, but the dead are aided by the Xolotl.
Traditions connected with Day of the Dead celebration include honoring the deceased using Calaveras and Aztec marigold flowers known as Cempasuchil, building home altars called Ofrendas with the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these items as gifts for the deceased.
