New Old World Music Society presents Sadaf Amini: The Persian Santour

An intimate, hour-long solo concert by Sadaf Amini, where music serves as a bridge between personal stories and the rich traditions of Iranian music. The program includes a selection of original compositions, improvisations, and works by other Iranian musicians, each offering a glimpse into unique moods and themes.

Sadaf Amini began learning the Santur at the age of 12 and later attended Tehran Music High School. In 2012, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Iranian music performance from Tehran University, studying with several Santur masters, including Said Sabet, Mina Oftadeh, Siamak Aghaei, Ardavan Kamkar, Majid Kiani, and Daryush Talaei. After immigrating to Canada, Sadaf completed her master’s degree in Music Technology at the University of Toronto in 2018.

Throughout her career, Sadaf has performed at various music festivals and won First Prize in the 2006 Fajr Music Festival for Ensembles (Iran), the 2007 Festival of Music Conservatories (Iran), the 2007 Fajr Music Festival (Iran), the 2015 Colour of Music Festival (Vancouver), the 2019 YGK Emerging Musician Competition (Kingston), and the 2020 Kingston Film Festival Local Music Video Showcase Jury Prize (Kingston).

Currently, Sadaf is expanding her repertoire beyond traditional Iranian music, developing a personal style that expresses her inner feelings.
