PuSh International Performing Arts Festival with Music on Main present Inheritances by Adam Tendler
Adam Tendler, one of the most celebrated contemporary pianists in the world, didn’t expect an inheritance from his father. But, when it happened, the gift was as bizarre as it was unexpected: a wad of cash in a manilla envelope, handed over in a parking lot.
He reached out to his closest friends, all of whom happened to be brilliant composers, and each enthusiastically accepted the invitation to contribute. Composers such as Laurie Anderson, Devonté Hynes, Missy Mazzoli, and Nico Muhly created 16 pieces drawing from Tendler's reflections on his relationship with his father and their own memories and interpretations of the subject.
The new works collectively explore the multifaceted aspects of legacy, creating an intimate narrative that resonates universally with themes of lineage, loss, and place.
