Stand Festival presents Confined Spaces, Boundless Movements & The Catrina and the Whispers of Flowers
Confined Spaces, Boundless Movements: This piece seamlessly blends the elegance of Azerbaijani dance with expressive, modern storytelling. Confined Spaces, Boundless Movements explores the journey of women who, restricted by cultural and gender-based limitations in Iran, found freedom through movement in private domestic spaces. The piece follows their path through migration, transformation, and creative resilience. Performed without words and accompanied by live Azerbaijani folk music, the work speaks through gesture, rhythm, and emotion, accessible to audiences of all languages. This performance celebrates the enduring power of cultural expression and the strength of those who dance despite silence.
The Catrina and the Whispers of Flowers is a contemporary dance duet inspired by Mexico's iconic Day of the Dead figure, La Catrina. Through evocative movement and traditional Mexican songs, this performance reflects on identity and ancestral memory, elements deeply embedded in the migrant experience. Drawing on threads of tradition, culture, and personal history, it becomes a poetic meditation on the invisible bonds that tie us to our roots, no matter how far we travel.
Please note: This performance features songs in Spanish and does not include subtitles.
*This performance follows Confined Spaces, Boundless Movements, after a 15-minute transition. No separate ticket is required.
