Stand Festival presents Confusion & Forest / Flux / Frequency

FOREST / FLUX / FREQUENCY is a multimedia sonic journey through imagined natural worlds. The piece blends electronic sound, analog textures, and real-time visuals to evoke lost landscapes, bird sanctuaries, frozen ponds, tropical gardens, and electro-thunderstorms. Through plant-based mics, tape loops, glitches, and layered samples, the artists conjure a future where nature survives only in echoes and simulations—a haunting meditation on environmental loss and memory. Please note: This performance does not contain spoken language or text. It is composed entirely of sound and projected imagery.

Confusion The Canadian composer. Murray Schafer’s simple definition of a soundscape as the total acoustic environment as perceived by humans, including natural, human-made, and intentionally composed sounds help with the concept presented in the performance. Schafer identified three key elements:

• Keynotes – background sounds like distant traffic

• Signals – meaningful foreground sounds like a train horn

• Sound marks – unique local sounds such as a church bell

These components are woven into the piece to create an immersive listening experience that is both familiar and subtly disorienting. Soundscapes are central to disciplines such as sound design, music, urban planning, and environmental studies, offering insights into how sound shapes our spatial awareness and emotional response. This performance invites deeper listening through recontextualized sonic textures.

*This performance follows Forest / Flux / Frequency after a 15-minute transition. No separate ticket is required.
