The Stand Festival Presents: Peru Vivo - Rhythm & Roots and Time in Two
Peru Vivo: Rhythm and Roots
ROOTS Peruvian Folk Dance presents a vibrant celebration of Peru’s cultural diversity, taking audiences on a journey through the country’s Coast, Highlands, and Amazon regions. Through dynamic choreography, traditional costumes, and expressive storytelling, the performance showcases energetic dances such as Festejo and Polka from the Coast, Valicha and Huaylash from the Andes, and festive Amazonian traditions including Anaconda and Carnaval de Lamas. ROOTS brings the spirit, rhythm, and richness of Peruvian heritage to life on stage
Intermission
Time in Two
This work is brought to life by Rita Barieieva, Ganna Martynova, and Yevheniia Motorna. All three collaborators, originally from Ukraine, are members of the Born II Boogie crew, bringing a shared creative foundation and street dance background to the project.
Set within a period shaped by constraint, this work begins in resistance to what cannot easily change. As it unfolds, it moves through negotiation and fatigue, where time stretches and fractures. Gradually, the struggle falls away, leaving a quieter encounter with what remains. Through sound and movement, time becomes elastic and uneven, revealing a discovery that emerges not from resolution, but from staying with experience.
Stand Festival presents Transpositions and The Beauty and Power of Belly Dance a double bill dance night in Vancouver.
