Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Society presents the 2023 Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Festival Concert Series. This evening concert will showcase an exciting first-time collaboration between the Taiwan Yangqin Orchestra of Taiwan and the Orchid Ensemble of Vancouver.
Established in 2002, the Taiwan Yangqin (Dulcimer) Orchestra keeps moving towards its vision of “Setting base in Taichung, glorifying Taiwan, and marching to the international arena.” Established in 1997, the JUNO-nominated Orchid Ensemble is acclaimed as “one of the most adventurous groups uniting Eastern and Western musical traditions” (Georgia Straight). The trio is made up of internationally renowned musicians Lan Tung (Taiwan/Canada) on the erhu/Chinese violin & vocals, Dailin Hsieh (Taiwan/Canada) on the zheng/Chinese zither, and Jonathan Bernard (Canada) on percussion, including the marimba. Its highly regarded interdisciplinary productions fuse music, dance (contemporary, aerial, flamenco, Chinese, etc.), visual, and media arts.
