*PROGRAM CHANGE* Unfortunately, we will no longer be able to screen The Gold Rush (1925) with live organ accompaniment as originally planned due to unforeseen copyright and licensing restrictions.
Please rest assured that your tickets will be refunded if you do not wish to join us for the new program. Ticketmaster will contact you directly with instructions. Don't hesitate to reach out to our team at [email protected] if you have any questions or encounter any issues.
The Chaplin office has informed us that The Gold Rush (1925) must be screened with the score written for the film's 1942 re-release, and that our live improvised Wurlitzer soundtrack experience is not permitted for this particular film in Charlie Chaplin's filmography as a result.
Our audience values the unique live musical experience that is central to our series, and after careful consideration, we determined that a pre-recorded soundtrack would not do justice to the event.
Instead, we will be screening a selection of Chaplin Mutual shorts: The Immigrant (1917), The Pawn Shop (1916), and The Rink (1916)—all accompanied live by our talented organists on the historic Wurlitzer organ. Though this is an Encore Performance from our 2023 Season, the selected films are three of the very best of Chaplin from this period at Mutual films. We’re excited to share these classics with you and continue celebrating Chaplin’s legacy.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we strive to bring you accessible, engaging, and historically rich cinematic experiences. We look forward to seeing you at the Orpheum!
SCHEDULE
Join us in the West Coast Lounge for a pre-show performance by the Gatsby Strutters Jazz Band starting at 6:30pm. The screening beings at 7:30pm and the organists for Charlie Chaplin Shorts will be Michael Dirk & Koos van Nieuwkoop. Following the show, Keith Blackmore of the Vancouver Film School will host a lively discussion about the movie and the role of silent films in the evolution of film history.
