Vancouver Civic Theatres is proud to present a visual arts open house of our Spring exhibition by Steve McClure.
Steve McClure - Red Weather
Steve McClure creates paintings that use simple techniques and materials: a brush, ink, a cup of water and the relationship between the hand and eye. Often working in series and using direct observation and memory, his paintings depict untold stories or forgotten histories. Emerging from his illuminated landscapes are encounters between ships, lions, dancers, whales, volcanos, and satyrs. Referencing history, drama, and knowledge, his core concern is the perceptual slippage within these systems. The pieces in this exhibit engage with a recurring theme in Steve’s work – the stage. All images are in a way staged, drawing the viewer into artifice. His work borrows elements of the theatre – the audience, props, the stage itself – confronting the viewer with layers of representation and meaning.
The evening will include live music performed by Shawn Bullshields.
A free all ages event from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the lobbies of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre with a cash bar.
*** Please note that the artist-led tour of the exhibition with Steve McClure has been cancelled due to illness.***
