Vancouver International Dance Festival presents Elie-Anne Ross & Lorin Sookool
Elie-Anne Ross: Flux
Exploring stream of consciousness in both form and content, this solo by Elie-Anne Ross uses dance and theatre as primary mediums to facilitate the reclaiming of body and mind. Flux reveals an intimate universe that emerges as a poetic space rather than a destructive one.
An influential woman in the popping style, Elie-Anne has performed and battled all over the world. She is Co-Director of JOAT festival and aims to expand her artistic horizons through theatre and film, and by contributing to her community in meaningful ways.
Lorin Sookool: Woza Wenties!
This partly autobiographical solo by contemporary live artist Lorin Sookool interprets the dancing body as a previously colonised state. It engages with the political through a very personal and embodied experience, where movement is used to trace and unpack the violent erasure of Lorin's Black African identity during her formative years.
Lorin is an award winning independent contemporary dance artist with an interdisciplinary practice encompassing performance, text, sound, photography and film.
