Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's Masterworks Diamond presents Alessio Bax Plays Brahms

Please note: Hélène Grimaud is unable to travel to Vancouver for this concert due to sudden illness. The program remains unchanged, and we are privileged and delighted to welcome Italian pianist Alessio Bax to perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1.

Join Maestro Otto Tausk and the musicians of the VSO as they perform Brahms’ impressive Piano Concerto No.1, deftly played by Italian international soloist sensation Alessio Bax, Britten’s Sea Interludes and the world-premiere of Life: Emerging Antarctica.

The VSO’s Associate Principal Trumpet and acclaimed composer, Marcus Goddard takes us on a concert expedition as we journey across Antarctica’s varied terrains, dive with leopard seals, and dodge the ocean waves caused by a collapsing glacier with his work Life Emerging: Antarctica. The orchestra echoes images of the icy continent’s changing landscapes and ecosystem, projected on the Orpheum screen, which were chronicled by the celebrated National Geographic photographer and SeaLegacy founder, Paul Nicklen. VSO principal cellist Henry Shapard performs the solo, originally written for Yo-Yo Ma.

Dates Nov 25, Fri 8:00pm
