Yarilo Contemporary Music Society presents Out of the Shadows
Yarilo Music continues its mandate to bring to life the hidden treasures of contemporary solo and chamber music with a program that will bring composers and selected works “out of the shadows” on Halloween night. What should you know about the composers? History was not kind to Johanna Beyer. With only one work published in her lifetime, she did not receive much recognition from her peers though she was possibly one of the most prophetic and experimental composers in the 1930s. Vancouver’s own Jocelyn Morlock left us far too soon with many early works still in manuscript. Thomas Ades’ piano transcription of John Dowland’s In Darkness Let Me Dwell captures the dark, haunting poetry. The instruments of the program - piano and an array of percussion- speak of ghostly sounds and scary resonances befitting a concert on Hallows’ Eve.
