The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Masterworks Gold presents Stravinsky's Petrushka
Petrushka revolutionized the ballet world and served as a bridge for Stravinsky between The Firebird and The Rite of Spring. Maestro Jun Märkl returns to lead the VSO in this tangled tale of marionettes come to life — a love story cut short by tragedy. Praised as “a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity” (The Chicago Tribune), Karen Gomyo performs Glazunov’s fiendishly diffficult Violin Concerto. Camille Pepin’s Les Eaux célestes, inspired by a Chinese legend, depicts the reunion of two young lovers separated by a celestial river of stars.
